19-11-2009 6th Wakefield MAG Biker Quiz Challenge

Sat nav set, brains switched on – well maybe, off we set for the Wakefield MAGs annual quiz night. Six of us turned up, and were promptly told – “teams of five”. Our defence of only having the brain power of five went unheard, so we went for two teams of three, with a collaborative approach to the answers.

The quiz format was 60 questions, alternating five general knowledge, and five bike questions. The general knowledge allegedly had tenuous (very) links to bikes. The bike questions were mostly beyond most us, using the defence that we weren’t born when the first 2-stoke bike was produced and generally have very little knowledge of vintage British motorbikes! General knowledge was better, with Mark the pop-tart coming into his own with his endless knowledge of all things dodgy in the pop world.

After a quick break to allow people to refresh glasses and be fed (excellent spread I believe), it was on to the marking. Papers swapped and red pens at the ready, the answers were announced one by one to a series of cheers, leering at those who got it wrong, and challenges to Steve the quizmaster.

The final result was a Wakefield team taking a narrow lead over previous winners Leeds. With only 1 ½ points between the top three it was a close call. Our efforts were well below with a respectable 28 & 30.

Many thanks to Wakefield for a thoroughly entertaining evening.
